Remember:

Shrove Tuesday  ie Pancake Tuesday is a fundraiser for Caritas Australia.

Pancakes are 50 cents each.

The children will be making these in class with their year 6 buddies.

The year 6 students will have 2/3 prep students where they will do various activities with their prep buddy throughout the year. Both the year 6 and prep love getting together and forming friendships. Shrove Tuesday will be the first time they will meet their buddies.

Ash Wednesday

All children will be attending a liturgy in the Church at 10:15 to receive the Ashes.

The Week That Was

On Tuesday we met our year 6 buddies for the first time. Some of the children in both year 6 and prep were a little shy of each other, but they all soon warmed to each other. The year 6 being the head chefs, attempted to follow the pancake recipe and the preps attempted to be their sous-chef! Whatever the result, all pancakes were consumed with gusto.

Wednesday was our first visit to the church and all preps showed the necessary respect required for a church service, especially considering they all received the ashes on their forehead. One could even go so far as to say they were 'angelic'! In class we talked about promises and how in lent we make promises to be more like Jesus. Their promises varied from helping children who are sad to helping do the washing and cooking...so I think a few of you may be able to put your feet up during this Lenten season.

In our Daniel Morcombe discussions we talked about our feelings and how our body gives us clues when something doesn't feel right such as when we are scared we might cry, our heart beats faster or we might tremble.

On your child's bag, a tag with a bar code and their name was placed with a ring holder on the zipper. This is to be used if your child is late for school and calls into the office for a late slip. Every child in the school has one and it is designed to speed up the signing in process when they are late.

Helping Your  Child

Check to see that they can write their name using a capital letter for the first letter then lowercase letters for the rest of their name. At school we do not write in capital letters.

Fine motor activities will greatly assist and strengthen their pencil holding ability. Cutting out using scissors is a necessary skill for the children. Teach them to change direction  by moving the paper around.
